Monetising Your Gold Jewellery

Where to Sell My Gold - Silver and Gold for Cash

You may have collected some gold ornaments over the years or inherited them in family but how frequently do you actually use such things? Not much probably. The pieces keep lying in a box – some of them become too-old fashioned to be used now and some may be broken or too uncomfortable to wear. But gold does have value and it is easy to garner the same when you sell it to a cash-for-gold company. In Canada, there are dealers that will buy your gold, silver, platinum and palladium products irrespective of the form they are in.

The gold content of any jewellery is indicated in karats. Purest gold is 24 karats. As gold is very soft, other metals and hardening agents need to be mixed in it and this reduces the purity to less than 24 karats. Buyer will pay only for the gold content of your items because other metals - with the exception of silver, palladium and platinum – do not have good resale value.

Usually, gold content of the jewellery sold in Canada and the US is marked somewhere. It may be on the inside of your ring, bangle or on the clip of the necklace that you are trying to sell. An 18 karat piece of gold jewellery can have the inscription ’18 karats’ or ‘18/24’ or just ‘18K’.

To keep a profit margin for themselves, all buyers pay at a rate less than the market price of gold. But there are sellers who can enjoy a profitable deal in this scenario too. If the gold jewellery was bought several years ago at a smaller cost or was bought in another country where it was cheaper, the price received can be lot more than what was paid for it then. So the incoming cash naturally feels more attractive.

Know the value of your gold, do your research and choose a trustworthy buyer – your old, broken gold items can bring in a big wad of crisp currency.
